ePIC UMC OS is a proprietary Bitcoin mining firmware and Universal Mining Controller platform developed by ePIC Blockchain Technologies. It replaces stock Bitmain firmware on Antminer S19x and S21 series miners — delivering chip-level tuning, automated optimization, and full fleet management APIs for operations running from single miners to fleets of thousands.
What is ePIC UMC OS?
ePIC UMC OS (Universal Mining Controller Operating System) is custom Antminer firmware that replaces the stock Bitmain firmware on Antminer S19x and S21 series miners. It delivers automated hashrate optimization, chip-level tuning, thermal protection, and fleet management APIs — enabling mining operators to maximize ROI from existing hardware without mandatory hardware replacement.
UMC OS is available in two deployment models. The firmware-only model installs on compatible stock Bitmain control boards using RigRunner, ePIC’s complimentary mass-deployment tool, and operates with a 1.5% development fee — reduced from the previous 2.5% as of January 2026, making it the lowest published dev fee among major Bitcoin mining firmware providers. The hardware bundle model pairs UMC OS with ePIC’s dedicated UMC Control Board, which ships with firmware pre-installed and carries no recurring development fee.
January 2026 update: ePIC reduced its UMC OS development fee to 1.5% — the lowest among major custom Antminer firmware providers.

How does UMC OS Optimize Bitcoin Mining Performance?
UMC OS optimizes mining performance through three proprietary tuning algorithms — Voltage Optimizer, Board Tune, and Chip Tune — that continuously adjust voltage, clock speed, and power draw at the board or chip level. The system’s Perpetual Tune engine maintains a user-defined hashrate target at its most energy-efficient operating point, running autonomously without operator intervention.
Each algorithm targets a different operational scenario, allowing mining operators to match tuning depth to fleet complexity and hardware condition.
Voltage Optimizer
The fastest tuning algorithm in UMC OS. Targets miners in stable environments needing rapid calibration. Typical tuning completes within minutes – the default choice for newly deployed miners or post-repair units being reintroduced to a fleet.
Board Tune
Applies performance adjustments at the individual hashboard level. Best for fleets with a mix of older and newer boards running at varying efficiency baselines – balances output across the three hashboards without chip-level granularity.
Chip Tune
The most granular algorithm in the platform. Individually adjusts the clock frequency of each ASIC chip while concurrently optimizing voltage. Because ASIC chips vary in silicon quality, Chip Tune extracts maximum efficiency from the physical hardware. Requires up to 60 minutes per miner.
All three algorithms include automatic thermal protection: when the miner temperature approaches 2°C below the configured shutdown threshold, UMC OS automatically throttles performance. Once temperature drops 7°C below that threshold, performance is gradually restored — preventing shutdowns without sacrificing uptime.
What is Perpetual Tune in UMC OS?
Perpetual Tune is ePIC UMC OS’s continuous automated optimization engine. Rather than requiring operators to manually configure voltage and clock settings, Perpetual Tune automatically discovers and maintains the most power-efficient operating point for a target hashrate — running persistently in the background and adjusting parameters as hardware temperatures and load conditions change over time.
Perpetual Tune is designed for mining operations that prioritize hands-off management. For operators running hundreds or thousands of machines, the engine reduces the need for per-unit manual tuning while maintaining consistent output fleet-wide. The algorithm also includes Survival Mode within the Voltage Optimizer, which intelligently throttles a miner when thermal conditions exceed safe operating margins — protecting hardware from heat-related damage without requiring a full shutdown.
Perpetual Tune operates as a persistent background process — not a one-time setup routine. Unlike static firmware configurations that degrade as hardware ages and chip characteristics drift, Perpetual Tune continuously re-adapts, making efficiency gains cumulative over the hardware’s lifecycle.
What is the ePIC UMC Control Board?
The ePIC UMC Control Board is a proprietary replacement control board for Antminer S19x and S21 series miners. It ships with UMC OS firmware pre-installed and replaces the stock Bitmain control board, enabling full access to ePIC’s tuning, monitoring, and fleet management stack with no recurring development fee on the hardware model.

How to Install ePIC UMC OS on Antminer Hardware
ePIC UMC OS is installed using RigRunner, a mass-deployment tool available on ePIC’s GitHub repository. RigRunner supports remote installation across large fleets, enabling operators to push firmware to hundreds of machines simultaneously without physical access to each unit.
Download RigRunner from the ePIC GitHub repository
Power on the target Antminer and locate its IP address using a network scanner — the device will appear under the cminer label
Download the latest UMC OS firmware file from the ePIC firmware download page
In RigRunner, select “Update Firmware,” click “Browse,” and select the downloaded firmware zip file
Configure pool address and worker username
Set hashrate targets using Perpetual Tune — or configure manually via Voltage Optimizer, Board Tune, or Chip Tune
Warranty note: Installing custom Antminer firmware, including UMC OS, typically voids the Bitmain hardware warranty — consistent with all third-party Bitcoin mining firmware solutions, including BraiinsOS+, Vnish, and LuxOS.
ePIC UMC OS vs. Other Custom Antminer Firmware
Compared to other custom Antminer firmware options, ePIC UMC OS distinguishes itself through chip-level tuning granularity, an institutional API layer, zero mandatory hardware purchase for the firmware-only version, Whatsminer support (control board available, firmware-only support coming soon), and a development fee of 1.5% — reduced in January 2026 to the lowest published rate in the market.
