Bitcoin mining hardware designed from the chip out.

ePIC designs its own PoW blockchain chips, builds those chips into purpose-built Bitcoin mining rigs, and integrates everything in a unified system.

BLOCKCHAIN CHIPS

What is a blockchain chip maker — and what does ePIC build?

A blockchain chip maker is a semiconductor company that designs Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs) optimized for Proof of Work blockchain computations — primarily the SHA-256 hashing algorithm that underpins Bitcoin mining. Unlike general-purpose processors, PoW blockchain chips are built for one task: performing as many hash calculations as possible per joule of energy consumed.

We are one of the few North American companies to design our own PoW blockchain chips and build complete Bitcoin mining systems around them. Most hardware manufacturers either source chips externally or focus exclusively on software. We operate across the full stack: chip design, mining rig system manufacturing, and firmware design.

The company’s hardware product line currently consists of two components: the proprietary Universal Mining Controller, and the ePIC BlockMiner — a purpose-built Bitcoin mining rig available in two configurations, the immersion-ready Model 520i and the data center-optimized Model 740a.

HOW THE PRODUCTS CONNECT

Blockchain Chips

ePIC’s understanding of blockchain chips shapes its approach to system design and firmware development. Experience with Proof of Work silicon helps inform control board design, firmware tuning, and miner optimization across supported platforms.

ePIC BlockMiner

Experience designing miners, including prior BlockMiner platforms, gives ePIC practical insight into system architecture, thermal design, power delivery, and operational requirements. That background helps shape products built for real-world deployment and performance.

UMC & UMC OS

A control board and firmware platform designed to support monitoring, tuning, and deployment optimization across supported miner hardware.

THE FOUNDATION

ePIC's blockchain chip expertise and why it matters for miner optimization

ePIC’s understanding of blockchain chips informs its approach to system design and firmware development for Proof of Work mining. Experience with PoW silicon supports control board design, tuning strategy, and miner optimization across supported platforms.

The significance of chip-level understanding is not ownership of the silicon itself, but the ability to design products with a clearer view of how miners behave under real operating conditions.

Voltage response, frequency scaling, thermal behavior, and long-term stability are all influenced by the underlying hardware.

Why it matters

Legacy Hardware

Intel Blockscale: the technology inside ePIC BlockMiner

The ePIC BlockMiner 520i and 740a are both powered by Intel Blockscale chips — SHA-256 hardware accelerators designed by Intel specifically for Bitcoin Proof of Work mining.

Intel Blockscale chips include on-chip temperature and voltage-sensing capabilities, a dedicated SHA-256 ASIC processor, and reference hardware design compatibility — giving system builders like ePIC a foundation for both air-cooled and immersion cooling deployments. ePIC’s UMC (Universal Mining Controller) integrates directly with this chip architecture, enabling the precise per-chip frequency and voltage modulation that ePIC’s fleet management system is built around.

MINING RIGS

ePIC BlockMiner: North American-designed Bitcoin mining hardware

The ePIC BlockMiner is a Bitcoin mining system designed and built by ePIC Blockchain Technologies in North America.

Available in two configurations — the immersion-ready Model 520i and the air-cooled, data center-optimized Model 740a — the BlockMiner was purpose-built for mining enterprises that need flexibility across infrastructure types and the ability to control key mining parameters in response to changing market conditions.

Both models are powered by Intel Blockscale chips and integrate natively with ePIC’s UMC (Universal Mining Controller), enabling the full suite of ePIC’s fleet management software capabilities: per-chip tuning, Perpetual Tune optimization, automated curtailment, and overclocking headroom.

ePIC BlockMiner Model 520i

The ePIC BlockMiner Model 520i is a high-performance, immersion-ready Bitcoin mining rig designed for operations that prioritize a balance of performance and energy efficiency. It follows the traditional ASIC tower form factor and is built for deployment in immersion cooling infrastructure – where fully submerging the rig in dielectric coolant lowers operating temperatures and allows for sustained high-efficiency operation.

  • Immersion-ready form factor – designed for liquid cooling infrastructure for lower temperatures and higher sustained efficiency
  • Native UMC board integration – full fleet management access without hardware modification
  • Dynamic frequency and voltage modulation for real-time curtailment response
  • 5kW PSU included, supporting high-density rack deployments in managed fleet environments
  • Approximately 50% overclocking headroom for performance maximization during low-cost energy windows

ePIC BlockMiner Model 740a

The ePIC BlockMiner Model 740a is a high-performance, air-cooled Bitcoin mining rig in a 4U data center form factor.

Designed specifically for deployment in existing data center rack infrastructure, the 740a is optimized for mining enterprises that require maximum hashrate in a standardized, space-efficient form factor – without the infrastructure overhead of immersion cooling.

MODEL COMPARISON

What Antminer Models Does UMC OS Support?

Both models share the same chip architecture and UMC fleet management integration. The key distinction is form factor and cooling method, which determine which infrastructure each model is best suited for.

UMC & UMC OS

UMC OS and UMC Control Board: chip-level firmware built for fleet-scale optimization

UMC OS is ePIC’s custom Antminer firmware, designed to replace stock Bitmain firmware on Antminer S19x and S21 series miners. It delivers chip-level tuning, continuous automated optimization through Perpetual Tune, and full fleet management API access, giving operators precise control over how each unit performs across a deployment of any size.

UMC OS is available in two configurations. The firmware-only path installs on compatible stock Bitmain control boards using RigRunner, ePIC’s complimentary mass-deployment tool, and operates with a 1.5% development fee. The UMC Control Board replaces the stock Bitmain board entirely, ships with UMC OS pre-installed, and carries no recurring development fee.

Both paths provide access to the same tuning stack: Voltage Optimizer, Board Tune, and Chip Tune algorithms, plus Perpetual Tune for continuous closed-loop optimization without manual intervention.

GET STARTED

Built from the chip out. Ready to deploy today

From chip architecture to fleet firmware, ePIC’s products are designed to work as a unified system. UMC OS and the UMC Control Board are available now for Antminer S19x and S21 series operators. Deploy firmware-only through RigRunner, or pair it with the UMC Control Board for a no-recurring-fee hardware option.

The development fee is 1.5%. Flat licensing is available for large-scale deployments.
